The Ultimate Edinburgh Travel Guide, Built by People Who Actually Love This City
All Things Edinburgh started with a simple frustration: too many travel sites treat Edinburgh as a two-day stopover on the way to the Highlands. We think that’s a mistake. This is one of the most walkable, storied, and genuinely surprising cities in Europe, and it deserves guides written by people who know it in every season, not just the postcard version.
We publish in-depth, practical guides covering everything from Old Town history walks to where locals actually eat on a Tuesday night. Every article on this site is written, fact-checked, and updated by real people with direct experience of the places we recommend. No AI-generated listicles, no recycled press releases, just tested, current, honest advice.
Our Mission
To be the single most useful, trustworthy resource for anyone planning a trip to Edinburgh, whether it’s a first visit, a return trip, or a multi-week exploration of Scotland with Edinburgh as the anchor. We aim to answer the questions travelers actually ask, in the order they actually ask them, with the level of detail a good local friend would give you.
What Makes Our Content Different
- First-hand experience. We visit the restaurants, walk the routes, and check the opening hours ourselves before publishing. If a recommendation is in an article, someone on our team has been there.
- Regular updates. Edinburgh changes, restaurants close, prices shift, attractions update their booking systems. We review and refresh our top-performing guides at least twice a year.
- No pay-for-placement. Businesses cannot pay us to be featured or ranked higher in our guides. Where we do have affiliate or advertising relationships, they’re disclosed clearly (see our affiliate disclosure below and in relevant posts).
- Practical over promotional. We tell you when a popular attraction isn’t worth the queue, when a cheaper alternative exists, and when a highly-rated restaurant is overhyped. Honesty is the whole point.
Meet the Team
About Claire Bennett

Claire Bennett is the founder and site owner of All Things Edinburgh. She originally moved to Edinburgh in her twenties for what was meant to be a short stay, but quickly fell in love with the city and decided to make it home. Having lived in Edinburgh for more than a decade, including in neighborhoods such as Marchmont and Leith—she has experienced the city through every season, from bustling Fringe Festivals and Hogmanay celebrations to the quieter months that many travel guides overlook.
Claire studied Journalism at Edinburgh Napier University before building a career in travel writing and digital publishing. Over the years, she contributed to regional publications and travel websites, developing expertise in destination content, editorial strategy, and audience-focused travel advice.
She launched All Things Edinburgh in 2023 after noticing that many visitors were receiving outdated or generic recommendations online. The site was created to provide practical, experience-driven guides that help travelers explore the city with confidence.
About Matthew Creith

Matthew Creith first came to Edinburgh as a student but quickly found reasons to stay, from the city’s historic closes and green spaces to the unique ability to walk from a medieval castle to the coast in under an hour. Over the years, he has explored Edinburgh extensively on foot, developing an in-depth knowledge of its neighborhoods, walking routes, viewpoints, and hidden corners.
Before joining All Things Edinburgh, Matthew contributed to regional travel and outdoor publications, writing about Scotland’s walking trails, budget-friendly travel, and day-trip destinations. His work combines practical advice with firsthand experience, helping readers plan trips that are both memorable and easy to navigate.
At All Things Edinburgh, Matthew specializes in destination guides, detailed itineraries, neighborhood overviews, walking routes, and day-trip recommendations. Every guide is grounded in personal exploration and careful research, ensuring readers receive accurate, practical, and trustworthy travel advice. If Matthew recommends a viewpoint, scenic walk, or local favorite, it’s because he’s experienced it himself, often more than once and in different seasons.
